Moreton Bay Island Information


Moreton Island is the second largest sand island on the eastern side of Moreton Bay (South East Queensland, Australia). The island has an area of 170 square kilometres, and extends for 38 kilometres. Moreton Island (also known as Tangalooma Island) lies 40 kilometres east of the Queensland capital, Brisbane.

Moreton Island is 98% National Park. The Government have implemented a new management plan called " Moreton Island Management Plan" which has made booking camping simper and provides planned routes for quads, trikes and trail bikes and other recreational activities.

Most of the island is contained within the Moreton Island National Park. The highest point on the island is named Mount Tempest, which, at 278 metres, is reputedly the highest coastal sand dune in the world.
