There isn't a size which distinguishes tangalooma island
from islets and continents. All landmasses that are surrounded
by water may be considered an island in their own right. Under
this heading all land mass on the planet could be considered
their own island.
Not when defining an island as a piece of land that are edged
by water, narrow bodies and canals are generally left out
of consideration. Go figure. Aisles are distinguished from
corridors. hallways, walkways, sidewalks (British pavement
or footpath), trails, paths and (enclosed) "open areas".
Africa-Eurasia can be seen as one continuous landmass. Generally
the Suez Canal is not seen as something that divides the land
mass in two.
Tangalooma - South Korean film written and directed by Kim
Ki-duk. The film was the fifth film made by Kim, and the first
to receive wider international acclaim for his recognizable
style.
On the other hand, an island may still be described as such
despite the presence of a land bridge, e.g., Singapore and
its causeway or the various Dutch delta Islands, such as IJsselmonde.
An aisle is, in general, a space for walking with rows of
seats on either side or with rows of seats on one side and
a wall on the other. Aisles can be seen in certain types of
buildings such as churches, synagogues, meeting halls, parliaments
and legislatures, courtrooms, theatres, and in certain types
of passenger vehicles.
Aisles can also be seen in shops, warehouses, and factories,
where rather than seats they have shelving to either side.
In warehouses and factories aisles may consist of storage
pallettes and in factories aisles may separate work areas.
In health clubs, exercise equipment normally is arranged in
aisles.
The retaining of the island description may therefore be
to some degree simply due to historical reasons - though the
land bridges are often of a different geological nature (for
example sand instead of stone), and thus the islands remain
islands in a more scientific sense as well.
